Shown is a time lapsed movie of a confocal section through the base of a trichome cell (seen at the right as a large semi-circular cell). At the left, the movement of organelles over the vacuolar surface can be seen. Unlike the dynamic movement in most cells, the vacuole in the base of this large trichome cell is relatively stable and organized in an ornate anastomic, or branched, structure. The basis for this organization is unknown, but presumable is related to the massive cell size of trichomes. Images were acquired using EGAD line Q5.
