Regulated nuclear
exclusion
GFP is normally found in both the cytosol and in the lumen of the nucleus. In cells expressing tag LE8, GFP is excluded from the lumen of most, but not all nuclei. We have used the term "regulated" rather than "variable", because at least part of the variation in nuclear localization is associated with cell cycle stage (see images below).
